- LIGHTHOUSE DESIGN ACQUIRES XANTHUS INTERNATIONAL AB's ENTIRE
- PRODUCT LINE FOR NEXTSTEP AND OPENSTEP
-
- July 27, 1995 - SAN MATEO, CA - Lighthouse Design, Ltd. today
- announced it has finalized the acquisition of Xanthus International
- AB's entire line of NEXTSTEP technology. The announcement is the
- third in a string of technology acquisitions for Lighthouse, further
- consolidating the firm's position as the definitive supplier of
- object applications for the NEXTSTEP and OpenStep environments.
-
- Under the terms of the deal, Lighthouse has also acquired the OOE
- (Open Object Embedding) technology for linking and embedding. The
- OOE specification remains in the public domain. Lighthouse plans
- to incorporate OOE support in future releases of its products for
- business and technical professionals, and to further promote the
- standard to its customers and industry partners. In addition, the
- company plans on extending OOE to provide linking and embedding
- support across multiple platforms.
-
- "The acquisition provides Lighthouse with an extraordinary set of
- opportunities," said Jonathan Schwartz, president of Lighthouse
- Design. "Of primary importance, OOE will allow us to deliver
- next-generation linking and embedding to our shrink wrap solutions,
- and make it available to customers seeking inter-application
- integration in their mission-critical products. This creates yet
- another business advantage for objects over traditional PC and Unix
- environments, and provides a compelling reason for customers
- considering object solutions to select NEXTSTEP and OpenStep."
-
- "We're very pleased to have Lighthouse's commitment to our technology
- and to our existing customer base," said Dave Peter, VP of Sales
- and Marketing of Xanthus International. "Innovation with object
- technology has been the hallmark of our success to date--we'll be
- maintaining a close working relationship with Lighthouse as we seek
- to deliver that innovation in other advanced computing environments,
- such as OpenDoc."
-
- Lighthouse has not released plans for shipping any of the products
- or object frameworks included in the acquisition. However, the firm
- will make announcements regarding several developer products at
- Object World San Francisco, being held at the Moscone Center,
- August, 15-17 1995. Lighthouse products will be on display in its
- booth, #1036.
-
- Through broad-scale reuse of internal frameworks, Lighthouse has
- achieved significant efficiency and time to market advantages with
- its family of shrink-wrapped applications. By including industrial
- strength API's and open file formats, Lighthouse's products are
- designed to deliver similar advantages to developers of custom
- applications. Most recently, the release of Quantrix 2.0, a
- multi-dimensional spreadsheet, makes available a customizable
- analytical framework for developers of real-time and decision-support
- applications.
-
- Lighthouse Design is the leading developer of object products for
- NEXTSTEP and OpenStep. With a family of more than twenty products
- and services, Lighthouse is at the forefront of the commercial
- marketplace for object technology and products. The company is
- located at 2929 Campus Drive, San Mateo, CA 94403.
